COMPUTERIZED WEB-BASED CHURCH ADMINISTRATION PORTAL

Dept: COMPUTER SCIENCE File: Word(doc) Chapters: 1-5 Views: 2

Abstract

The recent development of interfaces for web- oriented systems and for administrative portal is associated with the use of many different technologies. They focus on the selection, arrangement and presentation of the most appropriate design for the particular software application. In this article, particular attention is paid to one of the latest technologies, these are HTML5, in combination with CSS3, Visual Basic and PHP5. They are used for the implementation of a simple, multifunctional interactive multimedia tool, which was developed using the generalized model. Its main purpose is to allow clients create alone their preliminary rough interface design vision of the future software. After that they just have to present the final result to application developers, avoiding misunderstanding what exactly client wants. In that way, both participants in this process save their time. A Web Site in computer science is the file of information located on a server connected to the World Wide

1.1       Background Of The Study

Computer has now become a household item with ever increasing people connected to the internet to pay bills, buy things, source for information, etc.

Christ Holy Church International was founded on 1947 Oduro (2018) but till date have no website. Church website is a vital part of any Christian body running because members are what keep a Christian body alive. The website provides accurate and organized information for communicating with members which is one of the most important activities within any Christian body as one cannot survive without members. A poor information communication can mean providing poor and untimely information for both staff and members being placed in diver locality.

A website is a collection of Web pages, images, videos and other digital assets that is hosted on one or several Web server, usually accessible via the Internet, cell phone or a LAN.

The pages of websites can usually be accessed from a common root URL called the homepage, and usually reside on the same physical server. The URLs of the pages organize them into a hierarchy, although the hyperlinks between them control how the reader perceives the overall structure and how the traffic flows between the different parts of the sites.

A website requires attractive design and proper arrangement of links and images, which enables a browser to easily interpret and access the properties of the site. Hence it provides the browser with adequate information and functionality about the organization, community, network etc.

“WITH WEBSITE INFORMATION ON YOUR PRODUCTS AND SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE AT ANY TIME, ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD.”

“Therefore a company/ business/ organization with website have a greater market penetration compared to those who don’t. Your yahoo or hotmail email address does not give a professional out look to your business. Without a website you are not available online for your local (country) internet users who are your potential customers to get to know about your products and services. Let alone the 40 million internet users worldwide. You are limiting those who are interested in your products or services to working hours, as the only way they can enquire or learn more about what you have to offer is by walking- in or phone call. And if you are closed on Saturdays and Sundays, there goes another two days in a week. You loose credibility – Nowadays a company/ business without a website is perceived to be a small company who can’t afford to get a website designed.” Chakra(2019)

However, considering the important and advantage of website in this modern world now, that is why I consider is necessary to carry out this research on developing a website for Christ holy church as a project.

1.2       Statement Of the Problem

Christ Holy Church International was founded on 1947 but till this day is not known by many Nigerian as one of the best church in Nigeria history and there a lot of poor information dissemination among various station to its members and the headquarters to other station which is in every state of the federation. However, this website will address this problem and more efficiency to the management of the church resource

1.3       Aim and Objectives Of The Study:

The aim of the proposed system is to address the limitations of the current system. The requirements for the system have been gathered from the defects recorded in the past and also based on the feedback from users of previous tools. Following are the objectives of the proposed system:

  1. To reach geographically scattered members. One of the important objectives of the Church website is communicate with all the members scattered geographically.
  2. To reduce time in activities. Reduce the time taken process the applications of seminarians, admitting a student into seminary school,
  3. To centralize data handling. Transfer the data smoothly to all the departments involved and handle the data centralized way.
  4. To have paperless information communication with reduced manpower. Reduce the manpower needed to perform all the admission and administration task by reducing the paper works needed.
  1. To have operational efficiency. Improve the operational efficiency by improving the quality of the process involve in management

1.4       Significance Of the Study

As with most real world activities, there are numerous benefits to using a software system for Missionary purpose. The most apparent to this project is the unification of the entire process.

Another benefit of a software system is the use of a central database. This database is the basis for all actions in the system and can be trivially updated and used to aid in all of the system’s processes, meaning all of the required information is stored in one central location and thus is easily accessible. This is a far more reasonable storage method than a paper-based file system, where the time of traveling to and physically searching the records for the required information could be a burden. Human error could also be a factor in that mistakes could be made in the filing process which would not occur in a well written database system and mistakes or changes on physical records can be messy to correct.

Software systems are also much faster at performing certain tasks than humans, meaning that time can be saved performing processes such as sending communication e-mails, creating recommendations and the comparison of applications. This also means that these tasks can be done solely by the system, freeing up those involved to perform more important tasks.

In the long term, if methods or minor details concerning the administrative website of the church changes, this can be reflected in potentially minor changes to the code of the system, to retrain employees rather than having regarding the new practices.

1.5       Scope of the Study

This project’s aim is to automate the system, pre-checking the inclusion of all distributed materials and books, CDs and DVDs containing Massages. Use the website as means of evangelism and for easy admission of the seminarians. the data used by the system is stored in a database that will be the centre of all information held about organization and the base for the remainder of the process after the initial application has been made. This enables things to be simplified and considerably quickened, making the jobs of the people involved easier. It supports the current process but centralizes it and makes it possible for decisions to be made earlier and easier way.

1.6       Limitations Of the Study

In the course of carrying out this research work a number of problems were encountered.

  1. Lack of adequate fund to finance the project: this was another limitation to this work because much money is needed to carry out a detailed research work which is not easily borne by every student.
  2. Power Routine: The source and authority of Electric power supply Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) is another limitation of this project. Some typed work was lost due to the power interruption and had to be retyped.
  • Time Constraints: Looking at the pandemic (the outbreak of COVID-19), the time given is too short for collection of required information and a more comprehensive fact finding for a better work would have been done if given enough time.
  1. The limited knowledge of Visual Basic programming was great challenge to this project. However, more research was made to complete this project successfully.6
