Abstract

Electronic commerce (E-commerce) is the buying and selling of goods and services, or the transmitting of funds and data, over an electronic network, primarily the Internet. The aim of this study is to design and implement an E-Commerce system. The number of problems facing the market system which include; Day-to-Day pressures of selling, Coping with customers, Solving basic business problems, Competitions (a new player enters, market conditions changes, sales drops, the company introduces a new products or services). The proposed model is concerned with keeping accurate products record, sales record and tracking goods ready for delivery. The methodology adopted for this research work is the OOADM, OOADM is best applied iteratively since there is no clear process involved, but each aspect where OOADM is applied is refined as it is reused. This is because major portions of the designs are based on the entire aspects of the system and on the entities rather than on individual functions a

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of the Study

Electronic commerce (E-commerce) is the buying and selling of goods and services, or the transmitting of funds and data, over an electronic network, primarily the Internet (Smith, 2016). Nowadays, Internet has changed the way we do business, whether it’s finding new streams of revenue, acquiring new customers, or managing a business’s supply chain. Wienclaw, (2013) E-commerce is mainstream enabling businesses to sell products and services to consumers on a global basis.

The new survey reveals from eMarketer, the number of Internet users worldwide will surpass 3 billion in 2015 which is 42.4% of the entire world’s population. As the internet has become an increasingly growing market for companies, it has also subsequently revolutionized shopping. (Wienclaw, 2013)

Some of the major companies today have grown by taking advantage of the efficient nature of low-cost advertising and commerce through the Internet, also known as e-commerce (Electronic Commerce).

At its core, e-commerce refers to the purchase and sale of goods and/or services via electronic channels such as the Internet. It is the fastest system to spread information simultaneously to a vast amount of people. For the buyer, this means that almost everything can be bought online. E-commerce consists primarily of the distributing, buying, selling, marketing and servicing of products or services over electronic systems such as the Internet and other computer networks (Kenedy, 2015).

The changing market represents a vast opportunity for businesses to improve their relevance and expand their market in the online world. By 2013, worldwide e-commerce sales reached 1.2 trillion. More than 40 percent of Internet users, 1 billion in total have purchased goods online. (Michael, 2013).

There are countless different e-commerce websites for the users to choose from. This raises the demands on the retailers. It might be fairly simple to start up an e-commerce website, but it is far from unproblematic to make that website successful. There are numerous aspects should be taken into consideration when operating and managing a successful e-commerce website (Kapczynski, 2009).

E-commerce has become an important part of national economy and social informatization. With the increasing demand for companies with online service, many companies realized that there are several aspects that should be concerned when operating e-commerce website. In the process of running ecommerce website, successful planning, promotion, daily management and maintenance, effect on ecommerce plays a vital role (Palmer, 2018).

In the world of software development there lots of improvement in the area of Architectural design and principles. The philosophies and implementation details are changing as the people guiding the development of the application. In this fantastic and yet sometimes complex world of software development there are some tried and true architecture patterns  and software development guidelines employed by most architects (Kevin, 2015). Also your design must have an ability to turn towards innovation instead of lending itself to common practices. Web services are one such area where architects must lean on their creative side and hope that their solutions are still successful. In this report we will explain an exciting voyage down the road of Web services application (Teriz, 2011). From requirements to use cases, to database design, to component frameworks, to user interfaces, we will cover each and every aspect of system design required to build an application with collaborative Web services. The reason why we selected online Bookstore web service is everybody walking down the street has some idea about bookstores. The objective of this project is to develop an e- book store where books can be bought from the comfort of home through the Internet (Ahmed, 2009). An online book store is a virtual store on the Internet where customers can browse the catalog and select books of interest. The selected books may be collected in a shopping cart. At checkout time, the items in the shopping cart will be presented as an order. At that time, more information will be needed to complete the transaction (Adams, 2014). Usually, the customer will be asked to fill or select a billing address, a shipping address, a shipping option, and payment information such as credit card number. An e- mail notification is sent to the customer as soon as the order is placed (Avison & Fitzgerald, 2009).
