CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

Background of the study

Impact of waste and refuse disposal practice in surface and ground water is usually brought about by the addiction of waste products of human activities and animal feces are presented to the environment around sub-ground water or borehole, surface water, ground water and in the community as well. Addiction of waste and refuse to surface and ground water brings about the infections of water borne diseases to the community through drinking of contaminated water, washing hand before meal with contaminated water and also kitchen utensils. Water borne disease like dysentery has harmful impact on children growth(child health 2017) although dysentery/diarrhea disease is usually less harmful to adults than to children.

It can also affect the country economy by reducing the health of its work force (child health,2017). These patents are always treated with expensive intravenous fluid and in effective drug. water borne disease are associated with bacterial, viral, or parasitic infection is the most common infectious illness experienced by millions of children in developing countries and the major cause of disease in international travelers.

According to world health organization (WHO2001), 16 million death were due to infection disease in 1997 of these death, dysentery and diarrhea accounted for over 3million. Globally, seven children die of dehydration cause by dysentery and diarrhea every minute mainly due to poor quality drinking water and malnutrition, which still affects the majority of the world population.
