1.0 INTRODUCTION
The cooperative movement began in Europe in the 19th century primarily in Britain and France although the shove porier society claims to be the world’s first cooperative society being established in Aberdeen in 1498 (although it has since demutualized to become a private partnership). The industrial and the increasing mechanism of the economy transferred society threatened the livelihood of many workers. They attempted to address climate at the time. The first documented customer cooperatives was founded in 1769 in barely furnished cottage in fenwick, East Ayrshire when local weaver man handled a seeks of oatmeal into John walkers white washed from room and began selling the contest discount forming the Fenwick weavers society.
1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
A cooperative society is an autonomous association of persons United voluntarily to meet their common economic and cultural needs and aspiration through jointly owned and democratically controlled enterprise.
A cooperative society is another means for forming a legal entity to conduct business besides forming a company. Is it possible to merge a cooperative society seeking cooperative when they are in need of the service it would bring. Those questions were used almost two decades ago.
The creation of mankind cooperative has been entrusted between the first man , Adam and eve, cooperative was specially designed by God for human race. Furthermore cooperative society is not limited to man alone. It also occurs among insects such as ants,termintes etc. The Word “cooperative” means to work and be in action with others. Therefore this definition helps us to remember that cooperative does not consist of a small compact group of ideas or practice but it is sometimes a form of organization or a way of doing things. It is said that many workers who ordinarily would have due to low saltines and entitlement or even rich due to other membership of cooperative societies.
1.2 PROBLEM OF THE STUDY
2 cooperators do not have enough money to meet their needs because they lack access to loan.
1.3 OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
The main objective of the study is to examine the impact of cooperative society on the welfare of members using Ado-Odo Ota local government as a case study. The objective are

1.6 SCOPE OF THE STUDY
The study of this project work will be based on cooperative society. Members welfare and the government commitment in developing it. Its purpose is to limit to be topic area alone but like an in house endeavor is to go a little further to give the reader more knowledge of cooperative societies and their activities. The project would also unveil more hidden knowledge of cooperative societies. Due to finical constraints certain ingredients might be missing .
1.7 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
The project will be very useful to members in the public sector who are contemplating on establishing a cooperative society in the area of its contributions to the development and benefits available for knowledge of cooperative society.
Cooperative society are important in order to help organize mutual benefit when a cooperative structure society in its original tribal form. Jobs are allocated and resources exchanged among each other and done with external communities. Cooperative societies are now extremely important mortgage and professional credit within banks.

1.9 HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF COOPERATIVE SOCIETY IN ADO-ODO OTA LOCAL GOVERNMENT
The Ado-Odo Ota local government area is one of the 19th local government in ogun state Nigeria. It came into existence in 1989 following the merge of defluence Ifo/Ota local government with Ado-Odo/igbesa area of Yewa south local government.
The local government area is the second largest in ogun state and it is the headquartred at Ota (otta). Other towns includes Agbara, Igbesa area of Yewa south local government.
The long term success of cooperative society stems from the strong relationship with the members based on the deep roots of the culture, the members interest and to increase the standard of living of its members with the total commitment to exceptional standards of performance and productivity. In order to achieve the success they endeavoured to maintain th highest standards of cooperative behavior towards the , government and operating environment. Over the years, cooperative societies have been socially and economically responsible and have been a good responsive organizations that takes strategic actions for the development and improvement of the members interest and interest, welfare and environment in which it operates.
